There’s an old saying in product development: no matter how well you test something, the first real client will find a problem you never thought of. We’ve seen it happen. And honestly — it’s usually true.

That’s part of why we decided to be our own first client.

We don’t just build LED controllers and software. We use them in real installations. And one day, while working through the same frustrations over and over on job sites, we started writing down everything that was broken about the existing options for rental LED pixel setups. That list turned into ProfiLED — a modular LED bar system designed from scratch to solve the most common headaches in professional LED pixel work.

A Pixel LED Show at 2,000 Meters

In the summer of 2024, we built a pixel LED installation on a mountain stage in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, Austria — roughly 2,000 meters above sea level. The show runs every Wednesday during ski season and pulls in over 2,000 visitors a night.

The project had three main parts: two large vertical “crystal” structures covered in addressable LED pixel strips (around 200 meters of strip total), plus a hydraulic moving stage fitted with another 50 meters. All of it runs through five LED Ethernet controllers, each driving 4,096 pixels, connected over a local network back to the front-of-house desk.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2018 stage in Lisbon was designed to be something extraordinary. The set architect planned two main features that made it unlike anything seen at Eurovision before: a row of massive moving LED ribs rising up from the back of the stage, and a sweeping arc that stretched all the way forward toward the audience. Both structures were covered in pixel LED strips from end to end.

Let’s Dance is one of the most popular TV shows in Slovakia. It’s a celebrity dance competition that runs every spring — about six weeks, one live round per week. Because the show needs a huge space for its performances, the production team rents out a convention exhibition hall every season and builds the entire TV studio from scratch. Everything — lighting rigs, set walls, stages — goes up and comes down each year.

The Problem With Black Stage Fabric

Czechoslovakia’s Got Talent films its final rounds in huge venues. The bigger the space, the more room there is for fans — and more fan energy on camera means a better show. But those big spaces create a real lighting challenge.

To make the stage look great on TV, the crew needs the surrounding area to be as dark as possible. The standard fix is wrapping everything in black theatrical fabric. It works — but it creates a new problem. When a camera pans off-stage to catch audience reactions, all you see behind the fans is a flat black wall. It looks empty and dead.
